Sheffield - Home Of The Full Monty

Sheffield - City On The Move

I'm sure you all watched with interest the short film that starts The Full Monty off and for those who have never visited the Steel City I hope that you understand that this was a film produced years ago and the place has changed beyond recognition since then.

Yes, there are still remnants of the absolutely huge steel mills.. Yes, there are still a few parts of Sheffield that you would still class as 'old fashioned' but overall Sheffield, since that short film was made, is 'City That Has Moved'. It's moved on and it's moved up and the place now is evolving into a city of the future.

We've caught up in terms of understanding that the old smog ridden, dark, damp empty buildings need to go or be renovated.

Sheffield has also created a great sense of rebirth, and the city centre in particular has been reborn into a bright, clean, modern city centre that is still being improved as you read this sentence.
The speed of change is incredible and every time you look you see something new on the Sheffield horizon. It's this rapid change to the city that prompted us to try and celebrate the city and some of it's popular history both on this site and our sister site Sheffield History.

The city of Sheffield has a fascinating past and the Sheffield History website has accounts, pictures, and memories of every part of Sheffield from the Hole In The Road, to Kelvin Flats, to the Fiesta nightclub.
